ASHTAS Bundaberg Regional Council Block Course.

This block course is as follows

15th December – Complete the Operative learning in the classroom and the online assessment.
16th December – Complete the Installer A learning in the classroom and online assessment. The learners will need to bring along onsite records they have complete for barrier installation, a list of evidence will be provided so they can start completion of their eLogbook with me in the classroom.

17th December – Complete 3 installer B modules and assessment in the classroom. You will be able to select 3 that best fits their work, W-Section, Wire Rope, Terminals or Rigid barriers. Most crews complete the first 3 as rigid barriers are normally specialist teams.

Exclude from the price in the review of the completed eLogbook’s and issue of the eCard following the successful review of the eLogbook.

 

If someone fails an assessment during the 3 days, there is a stand-down period of 21 days before they can do a resit. They will continue on with the theory, but will not be able to progress onto the next stage assessment till the prerequisite is completed. Resits cost $200+GST and will be completed online via Teams or similar.

The learner will need to bring along the following evidence for their Installer A eLogbook in Bold.

Site Planning

Provide evidence to identify the nature of the works required on your site, including potential risks and hazards that may be encountered on site. Once identified, specify solutions or control measures in order to mitigate the risks.

Identified risks are to include all aspects of the works undertaken and are not only limited to safety.

Travelling to and from site
Other site works/activities
Vehicle Incursion
Poor quality (product and installation)
Delivery delays and failures
Safety issues
Health issues
Environmental issues.

Note: this is not limited to health and safety; but is to consider failure to complete the task.

Documents including: SWMS | Site Briefing | Planning Notes | Witness Statements.

Equipment ID

Identify the equipment required for the planned activity. This may include, but is not limited to transport, welfare, tooling and additional supporting activities or personnel required.

Evidence is to be supplied for a minimum of two different tasks.

Evidence may include: SWMS | Site Briefings | Load Plans | Tool lists | Hire Tool requests | Planning Notes | Witness Statements | Video and/or Audio Commentary.

Shift Briefing

Provide a copy of a start of work briefing and demonstrate that the briefing includes elements as set out under TIME:

  • Task
  • Individuals
  • Method
  • Environment

Note 1-4: The acronym ‘TIME’ is discussed as part of Module ‘A’ Installer Training.

Evidence may include: Site Briefings | Notes | Witness Statements | Video and/or Audio Commentary

Product Hazards

Demonstrate understanding of the product(s) being deployed. This is to include appropriate risks and safety issues with corrective measures that may impact on the activity.

Evidence may include: Site Briefing notes | Video and/or Audio evidence | Witness Statements

Equipment Control

Demonstrate the following:

  • An understanding of the control of calibrated equipment (this will normally be part of the employers quality management system), including the need for records
  • Assembly, Setting-up and Storage of the equipment
  • Pre and Post Use Inspection activities, including where required the use of checklists
  • The control of calibration periods and how they can identify the status of the equipment
  • Why there is a need to record the equipment being used for a given test, including the potential consequences of uncalibrated/out of calibration equipment being used
  • How to report damaged/non-compliant equipment within the employers organisation
  • The need for ongoing equipment records, and why they should be retained.

Evidence may include use of company procedures/protocols for the control of calibrated equipment, as appropriate to the task.

This can be as a commentary with pictures or as a video diary entry.

Anchorage Validation

Demonstrate the use of the findings from previous activities identified in 2-6.

Explain the findings from the anchorage validations and explain conforming/non-conforming results and any resulting actions required.
