ASHTAS Training

Roading Industry Support Services is an Approved Training Provider for the Austroads Safety Hardware Training Accreditation Scheme with Lantra.

This training is structured so those crews installing barrier systems across New Zealand and Australia are working to a uniform accreditation to ensure systems are installed to manufacturer’s specifications, so they perform as designed and tested.

The training progression starts with the ‘Operative Workshop’ which is foundational learning for all crew members working to install barrier systems. This is about 3-4 hours of learning that is normally completed in the classroom followed by a 1-hour test. This allows all workers an understanding of the fundamentals of barrier systems, expectations of working in a team, and critical barrier system elements.

Following the learning and successfully completing the knowledge assessment they will be awarded the Operative Accreditation. This includes the issuing of a digital certificate and E-Card they can have within their phone wallet to demonstrate completion of the course. 

The next learning module is for installers or leading hands of system installers. This is a day’s workshop that begins the journey for those who will manage the installation crew of barrier systems and goes into more depth about how systems work and installation requirements. Following the workshop as with Operative they will complete a test to demonstrate their understanding. Following the successful completion of the workshop, an e-Logbook will be issued and the learner can start collecting evidence for their practical accreditation. This accreditation is known as Installer A.

To be accredited as an installer you will need to achieve Installer A and at least one of the following Module B Generic System training. 

  • ASHTAS W-Beam/ Thrie Beam
  • Wire Rope Safety Barrier
  • Rigid Road Safety Barrier
  • Terminals and Crash Cushions
  • Temporary/Workzone Road Safety Barrier
Once you have completed the generic system learning system providers will make their system training available through the scheme so you can demonstrate competence with each proprietary system you use. 
 

Installers are responsible for overseeing and mentoring Operative’s within the road safety barrier system crew.

e-Cards

E-card: A cloud-based solution operated by Lantra; verifying approved skills of the qualified ASHTAS Operative; accessed via their mobile phone. The accredited Operative and Installer will be able to use this to demonstrate completion of each stage of learning to demonstrate skills learned. 

 

e-Logbooks

e-Logbook: A cloud-based solution operated by Lantra and their approved training providers, accessed by a trainee installer or qualified installer, via their computer or mobile phone, that enables the collection and assessment of evidence to keep individuals ongoing ASHTAS accreditation and qualification(s) current.
