ASHTAS Installer Training Information

Roading Industry Support Services is an Approved Training Provider for the Austroads Safety Hardware Training Accreditation Scheme with Lantra for the installer course, testing, and assessment.

The prerequisite for this course is the ASHTAS Operative Accreditation.

This training is structured to demonstrate good leadership and knowledge of barrier systems across New Zealand and Australia. They are working toward a uniform accreditation to ensure systems are installed to the manufacturer’s specifications, so they perform as designed and tested.

The first step as an Installer is the Installer A course and knowledge assessment. Following the course the learner will start completing their eLogbook with the generic requirements across systems. This course provides an understanding of all barrier system types and overview requirements. It helps the learner understand the leadership role and an understanding of how to use the e-logbook they will use to demonstrate their installation standard that will be used to assess their experienced installer status.

After successfully completing their Installer A course and assessment the learner can then move on to Installer B generic courses for the systems they use. The learner will only be required to complete the course that they will be using in their workplace. There are five workshops that will be available.

  1. Semi-rigid systems ie w-section
  2. Flexible systems ie wire rope
  3. Rigid systems ie concrete formed
  4. Terminals and crash cushions
  5. Temporary / Workzone systems

Following each course, you will be required to complete the appropriate eLogbook requirements. Once completed your eLogbook will be assessed by an independent Lantra Assessor. On successful assessment of your eLogbook, you will be issued a certificate and E-Card to demonstrate competence and accreditation for the system.

It will be optional for teams to progress onto system owner learning packages after you have completed the general system learning and assessment.

The accreditation will be valid for 3 years and when using your eLogbook you can complete evidence close to your 3 year expiry and be assessed to validate for another 3 years if you can demonstrate current practice still meets best practice at the time of renewal.

Currently, Installer A course are available in the classroom but will be made available for online learning soon. As will the Installer B Units. Rigid and Temporary Barrier units will be made available as soon as the learning materials are available.
