Traffic Controller (TC)

Who is it for?

The Traffic Controller is the person who assists with deployment of the traffic management and maintains the site while the STMS is away from the worksite. 

The TC will only be able to assist an STMS installing, modifying or removing TTM at a worksite, except in the following circumstances:

  • Undertakes non-invasive activities on foot on the
    roadside of a road with a permanent speed of
    60km/h or less 
  • Undertakes inspection activities

What's involved

The course is a 1 day theory course. The workshop that will teach the candidate basic knowledge of:
  • Traffic Controller responsibilities 
  • Able to correctly complete the paper work associated with role of Traffic Controller
  • Risk identification and manage incidents
  • Communication with onsite crews and the public
  • Preserving safety zones and other key features of a worksite
  • Understanding of inspection activity

Outcomes

Following completion of the theory learning the Traffic Controller Warrant from NZTA will be issued. This will enable the candidate develop skills in the field under an STMS on the pathway to becoming an STMS themselves
